EasyPost Return Shipping Labels Now in Exchange It
Exchange It now supports EasyPost as a second return-label provider. Bring your own key, generate labels, and pay only when a label is scanned.

Return shipping is the part of a return that quietly eats your margin. The faster you can get a customer a prepaid label, the faster the item comes back and the sooner you can resell it, but you are locked into whatever carrier account your returns app happens to support. Today that gets easier: Exchange It now generates return shipping labels through EasyPost, in addition to Shippo.
If you already lean on exchanges to keep revenue in the store (see our take on an exchange-first returns strategy), a smooth label step is what makes that flow feel effortless for the customer.
What is new
EasyPost joins Shippo as a built-in return-label provider. It is a bring-your-own-key integration: you connect your own EasyPost account, and Exchange It uses it to fetch live rates and buy return labels on your behalf. Both providers now sit behind the same label layer, so you can run one, the other, or both at the same time.
The simplest way to think about it: Exchange It no longer ties return labels to a single carrier aggregator. You pick the account you already have, or the one with the rates you like best, and labels appear right where approvals happen.
How it works
You will find the new controls at Settings > Shipping Integrations > EasyPost Integration. Setup takes a minute:
- Turn on Show EasyPost in my Return Shipping Label options. This master toggle is off by default, and switching it on unlocks the fields below.
- Paste your key into the EasyPost API Key field. It is encrypted when you save your settings, stored masked afterward, and resolved server-side whenever a label is generated.
- Optionally turn on Default to scan-based return labels so new labels default to pay-on-scan billing.
- Save. Your key is encrypted on save, and EasyPost immediately becomes a selectable option when you generate a return label.
For the full walkthrough, including how to update or remove a saved key, see the help article on configuring the EasyPost integration.
What you can do
Once EasyPost is active, it shows up anywhere Exchange It creates a return label:
- Compare rates across providers. When you generate a label, the rate picker now merges rates from every active provider and groups them under clear headers, so a Shippo rate and an EasyPost rate sit side by side and a short helper line tells you which provider each rate came from.
- Pay only when a label is used. Scan-based billing means you are charged when the label is actually scanned by the carrier, not the moment you create it. You can set it as the default and still override it on any individual return.
- Cover domestic and international returns. EasyPost has full parity with Shippo for rates, labels, customs declarations, and tracking, so cross-border returns generate the right customs paperwork automatically.
Nothing changes for returns you have already processed. Existing labels and their tracking keep working exactly as before, and you can switch a store over to EasyPost without disturbing anything already in flight.
Built to be safe
- Your key stays encrypted. The API key is encrypted when you save, shown masked afterward, and never exposed back to the browser. To rotate it, clear the field, enter the new key, and save again.
- You stay in control of cost. Rates are fetched live from your own account, and scan-based billing means a label that is never used does not become a charge.
Availability
Shipping label integrations, EasyPost included, are part of the Advanced plan. On other plans the EasyPost controls are disabled and you will see an option to upgrade in their place. If you are already on Advanced, EasyPost is live for you now at no extra cost.
Get started
Open Settings > Shipping Integrations > EasyPost Integration, flip the toggle on, and paste your EasyPost API key. Your next return label can go out through EasyPost in the same approval flow you already use. If you would rather keep Shippo, nothing changes; if you want both, run them together and pick the best rate per return.
EasyPost is the latest in a run of integrations we have shipped, including a read-only AI assistant for your store. New to Exchange It? Install it from the Shopify App Store, or browse the help center to see everything it can do.
